| PATTERN FORMATION IN CELL CULTURES |
| Colonies of Bacillus subtilis that grow on the surface of thin agar plates show various complex spatio-temporal patterns depending on environmental conditions (Wakita et al. 1994). Based on experimental observations, a new model has been constructed in the context of reaction-diffusion equations (Hartmann 2004). The model has been studied numerically as well as analytically. Some extensions of the model for growing cell cultures, as well as limitations of existing models for growing cell cultures will be discussed. |
